Truth Be Told
During the Roaring Twenties, the Ku Klux Klan experienced a nationwide resurgence, numbering over two million followers—they terrorized the countryside, lynching, burning crosses, even marching on Washington D.C., thirty-thousand strong down Pennsylvania Avenue. Yet by the end of the 1920s, their dogma of hate and fear had fallen out of favor, Klan membership having dwindled to a mere shadow of its former self. But what if it hadn’t?Truth Be Told is an alternate history that explores such a possibility, chronicling the tale of three young black men who, in 1924, become caught up in a southern governor’s plan to return the United States to the days before the Civil War when cotton was king and slaves were less than human. Others become ensnared in the plot, including two elderly women living out their days at a tumbledown plantation, a farm girl wanting to escape a personal sorrow, and a reporter trying to unravel the mystery of several grisly murders.Despite their differences, these individuals come together to fight against the growing threat of the Klan, risking their lives in order to uncover the truth. Will this small group of unlikely heroes defeat the forces that are determined to take over the country? Or will the next president of the United States be sworn in wearing the hood and robe of the Ku Klux Klan?
