He has received a strange visitor from ‘the future’ who tells him that he must act quickly or the life of someone he loves will be lost. Not knowing what to believe, he asks Holmes for help. (This story is penned by Holmes himself as Watson was gone for the day, and Holmes solves it, ‘from the chair’)The Adventure of the African Crown Jewel: The African government learns that their long lost Crown Jewel is set to go on display at the museum. Mycroft, failing to diplomatically retrieve it from the museum, hires Holmes to gather a crew and steal it, (in order to serve the Queen and save diplomatic ties, of course.)The Adventure of the Giant Rat of Sumatra: Set six weeks after Watson meets Holmes and begins sharing rooms with him, a threat hits London. A plague that is only striking a certain demographic. A demographic that has the financial means to support a growing criminal organization. A giant rat is set loose to attack them and make demands. But what does the giant rat from Sumatra have to do with Holmes, Watson, Moriarty, and the Island of Dr. Moreau? It is an adventure that the world is finally ready to hear. (This story is a novella, taking up more than a third of the overall book.)The Adventures of Joseph Bell: The critical art criticSherrington Hope, private consulting detective, and his loyal chronicler, Ormond Secker have become the new consulting duo in London, but when a curator is murdered and they begin to bumble their way through the process, Inspector LaRue asks Bell and Doyle to once again assist Scotland Yard in finding out who the killer is. The author is also an artist, whose works have been in museum displays. He has included twelve new illustrations throughout the book, incorporating them into each of the stories, in the spirit of the original The Strand illustrated adventures.
